On a bright beautiful Saturday, in March we arrived at the Rome, Georgia, Living Proof Recovery Center https://www.livingproofrecovery.org to begin the Call for Entries for the Georgia Recovers Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) campaign. The facility was one of the state's new RCO's and we were duly impressed and surprised.
Living Proof Recovery is a community of peers in long-term recovery that support one another through multiple pathways. They offer a holistic approach including employment services, transitional housing programs, childcare, and programming to support family and friends affected by addiction. There's a green house in the back, and the centers Executive Director Claudia was enthusiastic and welcoming. We signed ten suitable applicants for the Recovery campaign all of whom were eager to be part of the campaign. We were grateful. One of the most tenuous tenets for success was to have enough participants that were willing to be vulnerable in front of our cameras. And Living Proof had provided the first 10 candidates for the series of qualitative interviews that we had scheduled to create the diverse data to attack substance abuse stigma on the systematic and local level.
